Common Misconceptions
The most widespread Phasmophobia myths, corrected once and for all. Each myth is paired with the in-game verified truth.
"Talking attracts the ghost outside of hunts."
Voice only matters during hunts (9m range) and for the Yokai's hunt threshold. Outside of hunts, talking has no effect on the ghost.
"The crucifix stops an ongoing hunt."
The crucifix only PREVENTS a hunt from starting. Once a hunt is underway, it does absolutely nothing. Place it in the ghost room before a hunt.
"The EMF Reader can trigger a hunt."
No equipment triggers hunts. Only the team's average sanity determines the ghost's hunt probability.
"You need all 3 evidence to identify the ghost."
On Nightmare only 2 evidence show, on Insanity only 1. Behavioral clues (speed, hunt threshold, reactions) work without any evidence at all.
"The ghost is always in its favorite room."
Ghosts roam and can change their favorite room. Ghost events can happen anywhere in the house.
"Turning off the fuse box prevents hunts."
The fuse box has no effect on hunts. The only notable interaction is that the Jinn loses its speed ability when it is off.
"Sprint makes the ghost faster."
Ghost speed is independent of player speed. Acceleration only depends on line of sight (except for Revenant, Deogen, Thaye, Hantu).
"Hiding in the van is always safe."
On some maps (Edgefield garage), a Demon's crucifix range can reach the van. The van is not a guaranteed safe zone on all maps.
"Perfect investigation gives more XP."
Reward is based on difficulty multiplier, completed optional objectives, and ghost identification - not on evidence perfection.
"Ghost Writing requires the ghost to be in the room."
The book just needs to be placed near the ghost's favorite room. The ghost does not need to be physically in the room to write in it.
